The book Craft villages in northern Vietnam is not a universal monograph or treatise of traditional craft villages. The author of the book also does not have ambition to cover all the traditional craft villages in North Vietnam, but only has surveyed some typical craft villages in a few provinces of the Red River Delta, where these types of villages are most concentrated, compared with the whole country. In this book, the author selects and writes only about fine handicraft villages, which is shown by name of the book. Although there are other popular craft villages and their craft products bring high economic value, they are not all included in the book. Further, the author classifies craft villages into 7 occupational (craft) groups as follows: Craft of stone processing; Metalworking craft; Pottery; Craft of wood processing; Lacquer craft; Embroidery and cloth weaving craft; Craft of paper and folk paintings.
